GLB to OBJ Converter — Free, Browser-Side, No Upload

GLB → OBJ

Convert GLB files to OBJ format online, free and private. All processing happens in your browser. No server upload. Ideal for importing into modeling software.

Best for

  • Extracting static mesh geometry from a GLB for modeling tools
  • Importing a web 3D asset into OBJ-first software
  • Creating a geometry-only interchange file from a GLB scene
  • Inspecting mesh shape without sending the GLB to an upload service

Before you start

  • Animations, rigs, cameras, lights, and scene behavior will not survive as OBJ
  • Treat the output as geometry-only unless your target workflow rebuilds materials
  • Check the exported OBJ in Blender or your modeling tool before deleting the GLB
  • Use GLB directly when you need a complete web or AR asset with bundled resources

Known Limitations

  • ⚠Animations are lost — GLB animations are not supported in OBJ format
  • ⚠Bones and skinning data are lost
  • ⚠Cameras and lights are lost
  • ⚠Some materials and textures may be lost — OBJExporter does not export MTL; UI will show a notice

Frequently Asked Questions

Will animations be preserved when converting GLB to OBJ?

No. OBJ is a static geometry format — it has no support for animations, bones, or skinning. All animation data in the GLB file is dropped during conversion.

Will the materials and textures from the GLB appear in the OBJ file?

Partially. The Three.js OBJExporter does not generate an MTL file, so material colors and texture references are not written out. You get geometry only.

Why would I convert GLB to OBJ?

OBJ is widely supported by modeling tools like Blender, Maya, and ZBrush for geometry import. If you need to bring a GLB mesh into a modeling application that does not support glTF, OBJ is a reliable intermediate format.

Does my file get uploaded anywhere?

No. All conversion runs in your browser using Three.js. Your file never leaves your device — there is no server, no cloud storage, and no third-party processing.

What happens to cameras and lights in the GLB?

Cameras and lights are not part of the OBJ format and are silently dropped. Only mesh geometry is written to the OBJ output.

How it works

Your files are processed entirely inside your browser using Three.js. Your files never leave your browser — there is no server upload, no cloud storage, and no third-party processing. The converted file is generated as a local Blob and downloaded directly to your device. Once the conversion is complete, all data is released from memory.
